Choghadiya (Gujarati: ચોઘડિયા; Hindi: चौघड़िया — literally "four-ghadi period") is a practical Vedic tool for selecting the right moment to begin an important activity without computing an elaborate Muhurta. One ghadi equals 24 minutes, and Choghadiya spans roughly four ghadi — about 90 minutes — though the actual duration varies because it is computed by dividing the true astronomical day length, not a fixed clock interval.
Auspicious names (start new work): Amrit is ruled by the Moon and is the best of all — ideal for any important start, particularly health and family matters. Shubh is ruled by Jupiter and suits sacred rituals, new studies, and marriage discussions. Labh (Mercury) is excellent for commercial transactions and signing agreements. Char (Venus) is especially good for travel, vehicle purchases, and journeys.
Inauspicious names (avoid starting): Udveg (Sun) creates agitation and conflict. Rog (Mars) tends to bring illness or obstacles. Kaal (Saturn) is associated with loss and delays.
